lasercut bookends

Posted on January 28, 2022January 28, 2022 by szmoon

For christmas I got Mike a bookshelf to go by his desk, and it soon became clear that he needed bookends to go with it. So for his birthday this month I made him some matching ones out of wood.

I ordered some plain, sturdy metal bookends with the plan to lasercut a panel to fit onto them. I ended up using the 1/8″ sapele I already had on hand from Smokey Hill Designs – I absolutely love how just some shellac and a sanding can bring out it’s color so nicely.

I don’t have much to add! These were pretty straightforward, and I’m really happy with how well the final color ended up matching the wood of the shelf~

p.s. the patterned vase was made by my friend Sarah – she occasionally sells her pieces at Waldo Pottery 🙂
