After I made this dress out of a second-hand plaid skirt, I still had enough fabric for a couple more projects. The first one was a cropped shirt version of the dress I’d just made – when my friend Sarah posted the bud vases below, I immediately fell in love and asked if she’d trade one for a handmade shirt with that fabric~

I really love how versatile and easy to sew the Wattlebird pattern is. ♡ I can definitely see myself making more dresses and shirts with it in the future. Here’s how Sarah’s turned out!
And here’s the little vase I got, with some cute little dog tails I got from a friend. 🥰

The final project I made using the skirt fabric was a bucket hat. I’ve been in LA for so long, and still don’t wear hats as often as I should (for someone who’s not a fan of sun, at least). I used this free Afternoon Bucket Hat Pattern, and it was a nice and easy sew!

The skirt fabric was thinner than I wanted for a hat (even with two layers), so I used iron on interfacing for both the outside and lining.

The only advice I have is to sew the seams of the Crown pieces first, so that if you end up needing to adjust the size, you only need to seamrip one set of pieces haha. I had cut out the middle size, but ended up sewing 1/2″ seams instead of the original 3/8″ seams.

Can’t wait to wear the hat with my dress and match 100% haha.
