thrifted fabric and a twin needle 🍊

Posted on March 8, 2023March 8, 2023 by szmoon

A couple months ago I visited The Wasteshed for the first time and found this bright orange cotton jersey, which was perfect because I had just recently purchased the Jackson Tee and Pullover pattern by Helen’s Closet (available in up to a 60″ chest). Now that I’m back living in colder weather, I’ve found I need a lot more long sleeve shirts than I had while in LA haha.

I made this in a size 6 with no alterations, but I think now that I’ve tried wearing it a couple of times, I’m going to take the sleeves out and put in new ones that are 1.5″ – 2″ longer (luckily I have some fabric leftover still).

This project was the first time that I used a twin needle, and I have to say that I’m in love! I don’t think I got the tension quite right on my mom’s machine, but the end result was still lovely from the right-side of the garment (I used it on the bottom hem). The twin needle hem did exactly what I was hoping – it doesn’t flip over and crease after washing! It lays flat perfectly directly out of the dryer, which is something I’ve never been able to achieve consistently with my serged + stretch-stitched hems. 🥲

Inside collar features the perfect matching label from the 2022 Kylie and the Machine Countdown Calendar. 🍊
