I wore my newest sewing project to hang out with friends in a non-zoom setting today~ ♡
This was made using the Steele Pinafore pattern by Elbe Textiles, which is available in up to a 58.5″ bust. I call it a “cheater” Steele Pinafore because I was feeling lazy and nixed the open sides and buttons (so now it’s fully just a slip-on dress). 😂
The fabric I used was a the ‘Brushwork’ Ruby Star Society quilting cotton in the Shell colorway, purchased from A Thrifty Notion. I’m superr proud that, of the 3 fabrics I ordered from them at the end of April, I’ve already used 2!! (I’ve been trying hard to only buy fabric that I know I’ll want to wear soon, haha)
I used this second make of the pinafore to test just how much yardage is needed if the fabric is 44″ wide, since I’ve seen so many cute prints I want to make this in that don’t come in larger widths. The official pattern doesn’t actually list required yardage for 44″ and says that you would need to have a center front seam in that scenario, but I think because I took off at least 9″ from the length (which in turn made the skirt pieces slightly less wide), I was able to cut the front/back as whole pieces. So, for a Size B with the length drastically shortened and using a solid fabric for the bodice and pocket linings, I was able cut out the pattern with only 1.75 yards of the 44″ printed fabric! 🙂
Anyway, here are the alterations I made to the Steele Pinafore pattern this time:
- I completely did away with the side openings/buttons/facings, etc
- I added a bemberg rayon skirt lining using the skirt from View A of the pattern
- I didn’t use stabilizer for the bodice or pockets
- Similar to my first version, I took off about 9″ in length from the skirt
I’m so excited to keep playing with this pattern in more fabrics and with some different alterations! ♡☀️
