I think I’ve wanted to make the Grainline Studio Field Bag ever since I first saw the sewing pattern, but I really could not think of a good reason for doing so. But then, after I finally started crocheting and knitting, I realized I finally had a practical use for it. ππ
I accidentally washed this linen/cotton canvas from A Thrifty Notion as soon as I received it, not realizing that the pattern instructions specifically say not to so that it can retain some rigidity. π I compensated for this by putting a layer of stabilizer in each of the pockets, which seems to help the bag stand up well enough.
For some reason I had a really tricky time figuring out what notions and in what sizes to purchase. I now realize that I didn’t have to be so exact with any of them – there’s definitely wiggle room for varying sizes of drawstring, webbing and grommets haha. These are what I ended up getting:
- 1″ Natural Cotton Webbing from Michaels
- Cotton MacramΓ© Cording by Bead Landing, from Michaels
- Eyelet Punch Die Tool Set from WeiFashionDesign in 8mm Silver – (Note: I might’ve just gotten unlucky, but I couldn’t get the fabric punch to work and ended up cutting out the holes by hand. The grommet setter worked just fine however!)
I’m really happy with how it turned out, and glad I was able to get this make out of my system. π I’ve already used it to take some knitting on a long car ride, and it works great haha.
