Today is what would have been my 爺爺’s 100th birthday. 張天威 was a great man and great artist. He passed away when I was 3 so I didn’t get the chance to spend too long with him, but I’m lucky that I’ve gotten to know him more since, and lucky that I still continue to feel loved by him today.
My family and I are working on a project to commemorate his life, work and archives. It’s amazing to me that I can find information about him through google, see past auctions of his pieces on Chinese and Japanese websites, and that I can view the work of his teacher in the Smithsonian. I’m hoping that with our project, we can help share his part in art history with the world.
