diy yarn blocking board

Posted on May 3, 2022October 16, 2022 by szmoon

I’m almost done making all the granny squares for a cardigan, and realized I would need a way of blocking them soon. I didn’t feel like buying a blocking pad or board so I decided to make my own after work today, using all scrap materials (laser cutting and assembly process photos below) . 🌼

Blocking yarn is the process of using water (for natural fibers) or steam (for synthetic fibers) to stretch and or/shape crocheted or knitted pieces to make sure they’re a specific size before attaching them together. In my case, I want to make sure all of my squares are the same 5″ or 7″ before seaming them together to make the body and sleeves of my cardigan. 😊

Granny squares were made following Twinkie Chan’s Crochet Sampler course on Creativebug. I highly recommend her lessons, they’ve taught me so much and made learning to crochet pretty much stress free! 💖
