chinese knot ornament

Posted on August 18, 2021January 28, 2022 by szmoon

Before I started my new job this week, I wanted to use the last of my time off to make something just for me. I’d brought back some Chinese knotting cord from my parents’ house in illinois, combined it with some of the newer laser cutting materials I ordered a few months ago, and this is what I came up with. ♡

The character on the floppy disk is our family’s last name, written by my grandpa who was a famous Chinese/Taiwanese calligrapher and painter (I pulled it from a painting of his hanging in our living room).

This was really therapeutic to make, and I’m definitely going to keep exploring the combination of Chinese knots and newer media. ♡♡♡
