I recently got inspired by blogger Sam Ushiro to get into making jelly creations. I think the jello/gelatin/jelly recipes attracted me for multiple reasons – they seem relatively simple/straightforward, they’re pretty, and I absolutely LOVE jelly desserts. Some of my favorite desserts growing up were jelly – green tea jasmine jelly, almond tofu (always mixed with a can of cocktail fruit) and ai yu jelly as just a few examples.
The cake below is one of the first jello creations of Sam’s that I saw – the pastel colors are so lovely!

And here’s a link to Sam’s instagram story highlight about her jello creations. 🙂

Mike is more of a cake/pastry fan, while my true love is for anything light like mousse, jelly, sorbet, etc. So while he does enjoy some of the dishes I’ve been making, I generally get to enjoy more of each. 😂
Anyway, we actually had a vintage gelatin recipe book that I could get started with! This Knox On-Camera Recipes book belonged to Mike’s grandmother on his father’s side. It’s got both sweet and savory (🤮) recipes. I’m only including some photos of the desserts in this post, but maybe someday I’ll make a post with the recipes that include corned beef and tuna..

I did also order the recipe book that Sam works from for a lot of her desserts – I found this 11th Edition of Joys of Jell-o in great condition for around $8 on ebay. 🙂

I ordered both Knox gelatin and agar agar (a vegan alternative), and am excited to start making some jelly desserts when they get here!
